Prepping Gutters For Spray Paint

While spray painting may seem like an easier task you will need to guard your home exterior from excess spray when leaving the gutters attached to the roof which will involve a lot of tape tarp and cardboard.

Spray two coats of paint on one side of the downspouts. Painting a poorly prepped surface will only result in disappointment while quality pre paint work pays huge dividends. Before you even take one brush to your gutter you have got to prepare. You can also apply a thin layer of top coat with a paint sprayer if you d prefer.

Spray several thin layers of paint rather than one thick layer. Spray rust oleum onto the gutter in an even pattern. Use a good quality exterior paint which will hold up to the elements for years. Clean the gutters with the sponges and a mixture of soap and water.

This would make the paint fall off and make your life miserable. After all that prep work painting the soffit and fascia goes pretty quickly. Correct any runs in the paint using the brush. Let the paint completely dry before flipping them over to spray the other side.

Use a small amount of top coat on the paintbrush so it spreads thinly on the gutters. Only spray over the gutters once with the top coat so it does not become too thick. A 211 spray tip produces a 4 inch spray fan perfect for most gutters and downspouts and the smaller size reduces over spray. Prepare gutters for painting.

If you are removing the gutters for painting spraying is certainly a quick easy and viable option. I started painting the soffit by running the paint brush down the middle of the board. We like to create steps that avoid that misery. Use a paint scraper to scrape off as much paint from the gutters as possible.

Then catch the drips on the sides to even out the paint on the trim and back side of the fascia board.
