In my humble opinion in most cases single slope roofs are neither aesthetically pleasing nor the most cost effective solution. The four major types of roofs used for barns are gable hip shed and gambrel. Since many pole barns use conventional rafter framing any roof style can conceivably be used. Neither one of these experiences caused me to see single slope roofs as the less than ideal solution to most pole building needs.

Gambrel roofs provide more head room and provide storage space on the top floor. Single slope metal buildings are made with non combustible materials and provide reliability strength. Single sloped roof pole barn buildings are often used as loafing pole sheds for animals but with the addition of a portico the building can be transformed into an exceptional piece of architecture. Most standard sized barns look and perform best with a 3 12 pitch.

Each roof type has advantages and disadvantages. Roof pitch is the term used to describe the angle or slope of the roof.
